Because their mothers give antibodies to them before they are born, babies are born with antibodies that protect them from disease. Breast milk antibodies continue to rise in breastfed babies. In all cases, however, the protection is only temporary. Immunization is a method of preventing infections from spreading. This is sometimes accomplished by utilising small amounts of a disease-causing bacterium that has been destroyed or weakened. Occasionally, the vaccine is simply a little part of the germ, such as a protein or a bit of genetic material..
